Ben Lyons – Digital Portfolio

Certificate of Journalism Qualification

Soon after graduating from the University of Derby with a first-class honours degree in 2018, he took up a Trainee Reporter role at the Derby Telegraph and Derbyshire Live. During his traineeship, he developed his skills into various patch areas, including retail, food and drink, traffic and travel, obituaries and tribute pieces. He soon found a passion for reporting on the latest developments in the retail and hospitality sectors of the city centre and wider county, areas he has been able to specialise in further since becoming a Life Writer in November 2022. Since January, the 26-year-old has stepped up to work weekend shifts as a Digital Content Editor, managing a reporter and taking charge of the Derbyshire Live Facebook schedule, newsletters and push alerts. In the future, he would like to eventually progress into a full-time role on newsdesk.
